Key Stage 2 Creative Writing

Light Up Creative Writing

In-depth creative writing workshops

Starting with a quick introduction, we move on through writing prompts and ideas, all done as a group. Before moving onto world design, character creation, plot design and cover ideas.

Choose from 3 themes

Fantasy, Modern and Historical themes; workshops can be based around one or each student can choose their own.

Ready to roll or tailored to you

Our carefully-crafted programme is designed to touch on as many aspects of story creation as well as touching as many parts of the curriculum as possible and utilising pupils' skills as much as possible. World design and cover design use art skills, character creation and plot design are practical drama exercises.

Fun and challenging days

A workshop that can combine drama and performance, craft skills, group and independent learning, and creative thinking.

Adaptable

Days are fully flexible to take your school timetable into account. Workshops can be whole day for smaller groups and tailored to encompass larger groups.

A typical workshop

Introduction- What we're going to be doing and why

Writing prompts and ideas- Some fun ideas to get going: What would your pet write on a postcard? What would a bird think about a football stadium? Why should we make you the Queen?

World design- Setting the story- maps, plans, designs, portraits, using inspiration from some famous examples

Character creation- Using more famous (and not so famous) examples, students create their character, from what they look like to how they walk and how they eat.

Plotting your plot- What's going to happen, why and who's going to win.

Run for cover- If you did judge a book by its cover, what would your cover look like?

We can also offer other activity options depending on your subject, learning objectives or themes, just ask for more information! Email -> contact@lightup.education <-

Founder Peter Sawyer has been scribbling stories since he was a teenager jotting bad sci-fi in a notebook on the school bus and now has almost 20 self-published books ranging from contemporary fiction to fantasy and historical education.

Light Up Creative Writing is designed to help inculcate a love of writing and reading by helping students create the basis of their very own story through full investment in their setting, plot and characters.
