Founded in 2018 as Peter Sawyer Living History (and briefly Experience), Light Up Education is one of the UK's leading history workshop providers and now diversifying and expanding both curriculum and coverage even further. We currently offer 17 History options, 2 Politics, 3 Creative Writing and flexible Dance and combined experiences, all at a fraction of the cost of offsite visits and using few or no school resources.
We have real passion for our subjects and in providing not just educational workshops but immersive, interactive experiences for everyone from Year 1 pupils to A-level students.

Light Up History is our core subject offering Ancient Egyptian, Ancient Greek, Ancient Roman, Celt, Saxon, Viking, Crusades, Medieval, Tudor, Gunpowder Plot, Great Fire of London and Second World War experiences that can be tailored to your learning objectives,
History workshops are available for all Key Stages and can cater for up to 180 pupils per day.

Light Up Dance, run in partnership with Julie's Dance Tuition, offer everything in dance experiences from one-off PE lesson experiences to afterschool clubs and OFQUAL-accredited grades. Dance can also be a part of other subject workshops to make one of our fantastic other experiences (see our prospectus). Dance experiences are very flexible regarding numbers and are available to all Key Stages.

Light Up Politics is a great way to introduce pupils to the subject or to study either Parliaments or Elections in detail from Ancient Athens to Churchill and the modern House of Commons, Politics experiences can cater for up to 90 pupils per day of Key Stage 2 and up.

Light Up Creative Writing is designed to give pupils all the building blocks they need to start their own short story or even a novel!
Explore characters, setting, plot, even jokes and covers and how they all fit together.
Choose from Fantasy, Contemporary or Freestyle genres. Suitable for groups of up to 60 from Key Stage 2 and up.

Key Stage 1 history workshops are available as wonderfully-exciting introductions, explanations and conclusions of a topic or just as a fun day for your Year 1 or 2 cohort.

Key Stage 2 is the heart of our provision; we offer tailored, exciting, immersive workshops in history, politics, dance or creative writing with more than 35 activity options and 20 different workshops,

Key Stage 3, 4 & 5 history, creative writing, politics and dance workshops and lectures are wonderfully in-depth, detailed and participatory. With over 40 options, we are sure we will find something to suit every group from archery to mythology

Our Spotlights are a chance for a real deep dive into a subject or a whole school event for a great way to involve everyone!
Combining elements from various workshops we can create themed days or weeks to deliver a fascinating themed week for the school or a spectacular multiple-day event for a class or year group. Great prizes and experiences await and all with our multiple day discount!
While this can be customised to suit your needs, we offer the following experiences ready to go:
- Fairy tales (Dance plus Creative Writing) - Dive into fairy tales as we combine dance with a chance to rewrite the classics
- Ancient Olympics (History plus PE) - The Festival of Zeus at Olympia, in your school! Everything that the ancient games included from sport to poetry and dance
- Hail Emperor! (History, Creative Writing, Dance, plus art and PE) - Emperor Hadrian has declared 66 days of games- explore Ancient Rome through dance, food, gladiator training and more
- Myths and Legends (History, Creative Writing) - The foundation of civilisations are their stories- explore and rewrite them for yourselves
- Viking Festival (History, Dance, plus PE and games) - A deep dive into the world of the Vikings: raiding, trading, fighting, dancing and crafting all come together
- The Vikings are Coming! (History) - Built for schools studying Anglo-Saxons and Vikings in different year groups. Swithin of Saxon Mercia and Sigurd Sigurdsson of the Norse will deliver separate experiences before preparing for a cultural exchange and a face-off
- Medieval Fayre (History, Creative Writing, Dance, plus PE and games) - All the fun of the Medieval Fayres: Games, competitions, prizes, dancing and fun!

The best workshop we've ever done!

Salve! Today, Year 4 had the BEST DAY EVER, when we had a visit from Centurion Valerius Drusus Aprilis from Legion II! He taught us all about life in the Roman army and showed us a Roman soldier's uniform and weapons. Then, we made mosaic plates and learned all about life in ancient Rome. After lunch, we had a go at making some battle formations with our scutums, before taking part in a battle! We also had the chance to ask Valerius lots of questions and even learned a bit of latin! Many thanks to Peter from Light Up Education, for making history come to life in our classroom!
